Various technologies are used - from nitriding and inert gas hardening to case hardening. In the latter process, the edge zone of the component is enriched with carbon. This gives it a hard and wear-resistant surface, while the core remains tough. Precisely defined areas of the component can be hardened by covering the other surfaces with a hardening protection paste. This results in high-performance components with outstanding properties.
